Innovation from SCHNEIDER LEICHTBAU: RECHARGEABLE BATTERY for equipment in EX zonesThe European Directive for Explosion Protection specifies that from July 1, 2003, all newly installed equipment is required to comply with the conditions set out by the Directive for Explosion Protection. Since June 30, 2006, not only new but all existing facilities must comply with the ATEX Directive. However, the manufacture and sale of EX-proof rechargeable batteries and electrical devices are only permitted by organizations able to prove certification in accordance with the Potentially Explosive Atmospheres Directive 94/9/EC. SCHNEIDER LEICHTBAU GmbH has succeeded in attaining this certification. The SCHNEIDER product range includes pallet jacks and weigh-lift trucks, as well as lifting and tilting devices which in many instances need to be used also in zones with potentially explosive atmospheres. It is particularly in this type of environment that rechargeable storage batteries provide an indispensable source of energy for mobile equipment and devices. Almost every manufacturer of mobile weighing and lifting equipment uses a different storage battery model, few of which are ever compatible. With its new development, SCHNEIDER has found a lasting solution to this problem. SCHNEIDER now offers a rechargeable battery which offers the BRUSS weigh lift truck a new lease of life, and is suitable not just for modern devices but also for “older generation” models. Aluminium compounds | All about aluminium SEQUEL 21 Aluminium occurs in a wide number of different compounds with many other materials. In the last sequel, we mentioned aluminium oxide (Al2O3), which is encountered in rubies and sapphires, members of the corundum family. Corundum crystals have a Moh’s hardness of 9, making them almost as hard as diamond. Aluminium oxide is also known as alumina, and in this guise takes the form of a white powder. It is used in grinding and polishing agents. Aluminium acetate Al(CH3-COO)3 is known as acetate of alumina and has an anti-inflammatory effect. Aluminium ions act to counter the effects of microorganisms. Potassium aluminium sulphate KAl(SO4)2 is known as alumstone and has a blood coagulation and deodorizing effect. In contact with moisture, hydrogen sulphate is formed which encourages protein flocculation and so hastens wound closure. Aluminium oxynitride is a transparent ceramic material traded under the name Alon which is heat resistant to 1200ºC, and is harder than glass. Aluminium organic compounds are used as isolators in semi-conductor technology and as catalysers in the manufacture of polyethylene. |
