NEW FEATURE: Attachment with conveying rollers for drum handlingAn alternative to the familiar Schneider drum lifting and tilting system ROBUSTO Aluminium... Innovation down the years 2 | All about aluminium SEQUEL 15 In sectors of industry such as aeronautical engineering, today major structures are composed to between 60 and 80% of semi-finished aluminium. In the automotive engineering industry, the proportion of aluminium used for car construction is set to increase from 5% to 15% by the year 2015 (estimation by the European Aluminium Association EAA). For an average family saloon, this proportion translates to a weight of 190 kg! Alongside the process techniques used, improved alloy forms and processing technologies (as well as composite materials) are all contributory factors in this trend. Finally, the recycling capability and financial value of the material aluminium also play a decisive role. The recyclability of the basic material is directly linked to the life expectancy of a product. The products being sent for aluminium recycling today, for instance, were produced in the main some 10 or even 15 years ago. This naturally does not include short-life products such as one-way packaging or drinks cans. Larger quantities of aluminium are processed in the fields of mechanical engineering, traffic engineering etc. |
