WATERpps - Water Pumping and Purification System: Clean water using clean energy

There are 1.3 billion people living around the globe who have no access to clean drinking water. SOLAR'Application - a subsidiary of Solar-Fabrik AG in Freiburg - presented an innovative new solar system for drinking water transportation and purification for the first time at the Intersolar 2002 trade fair.

The system, which pumps surface and ground water and purifies it by means of a microfilter, is capable of supplying the daily clean drinking water requirement of up to 50 people.

The basic frame and flap mechanism of this pioneering device was designed and constructed by SchneiderLeichtbau GmbH.

The frame is made up of an aluminium box pallet. For transportation purposes, all the system components can be folded into the highly stable base frame, which conforms to international standard dimensions.

Sustainability | Everything about aluminium SEQUEL 6

The term sustainability was raised back in SEQUEL 2. What exactly do we understand by the term sustainability?

Sustainability is the term we use to describe the consideration of environmental aspects in politics, but far beyond this it also stands for the guiding principle of future-oriented development based on the integral and joint pursuit of economical, ecological and also social objectives aimed at sustaining the natural foundations for life on earth and providing mankind with economic and social security.

The guiding principle of sustainability places stringent demands also and in particular on a responsible code of practice on the part of private industry. As a modern company, Schneider is committed to a corporate philosophy which integrates the aspects of economical, ecological and social responsibility.

What makes aluminium a sustainable material?

  • A long service life and extraordinary characteristics
  • Sparing use of resources due to any optional number of recycling processes
  • High recycling rate (around 90% already today)
  • Low energy input for recycling secondary aluminium
  • Energy invested in obtaining primary aluminium forms a type of energy pool
